This CD is part of the new series of re-releases of Kama Records’ earlier titles. These albums were originally released on cassette tapes (!) in mid-late 90’s in very limited quantities, which makes this material is quite rare and impossible to find for many listeners. However, this music deserves a good deal of attention - it is still as special and unique as it was in the mid 90’s. At last these albums are getting a new life, reprinted in digital format and repackaged in nice cardboard sleeves. Hopefully this time they will find their way to more music enthusiasts all over the world.

Atomic Reaction is one of the main projects that helped form and establish the electronic scene of Izhevsk. Originally started as a trio, the band quickly became a duo and is still active today taking part in various remix projects and compilations published by Kama Records. Mega Pop is their debut album featuring 12 tracks of analogue synths and drum machines. Although the material varies in style, it’s mostly based on simple rhythms and childish melodies. This stuff will definitely attract those people who miss the days of early WARP or Rephlex, that atmosphere is pervasive in these pieces. Tracks like No Name will remind you of the early Autechre; Derton is reminiscent of warm productions of Suction Records; slow electro-ish Lost could be something released by the legendary Clear Records. Mega Pop may not be the freshest album around, but it is a good representation of the 90’s electronica. For fans of the classic stuff.
